The orchestra's policy of reviving under-exposed music is most tangibly illustrated by its legacy of recordings. The hugely popular British Light Music Classics series ran to four volumes on the Hyperion label, and continue to be heard regularly on radio both in the UK and overseas.

Other recordings have revived music by Virgil Thompson, Grazyna Bacewicz, Poulenc and Sullivan. Most recent is the orchestra's world première recording of the British composer Rutland Boughton's 1924 opera, The Queen of Cornwall. Small groups of musicians have taken part in recordings of music for children by Ronald Corp, Michael Hurd and others.
