Kate Hainsworth was born and grew up in Belfast and began learning the horn at age 10. Whilst at the Belfast School of Music, she studied with Martin Wall from the Ulster Orchestra. Kate subsequently became a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, and principal horn of the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland.

As a soloist, Kate has performed at the Clandeboye Festival in Ireland, directed by the renowned international pianist Barry Douglas. In 2008, Kate gained a place on the prestigious London Symphony Orchestra Brass Academy. She is currently a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra with whom she has toured extensively throughout Europe. Kate also performs with the National Symphony Orchestra of India, Longborough Festival Opera and the King’s Camerata.

Kate has just completed her undergraduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London where she studied with Richard Bissill and Jeff Bryant. She is continuing her studies with a Masters Degree at the Royal College of Music where she is taught by Simon Rayner and Tim Jones. Kate’s postgraduate studies are generously supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the Philharmonia Orchestra/Musical Scholarship Fund and she is also a recipient of an MBF Music Education Award.
