Deaf Schools

The New London Orchestra’s work with deaf schools continues for a fifth year in 2009 with Selwyn School in Newham and Blanche Nevile School in Haringey.

At Blanche Nevile, orchestra musicians will be carrying out intensive one-week cross-curricular projects with children in years 8 and 9, as well as those in year 6 as an introduction to the secondary school. At Selwyn School, musicians will be providing weekly session with junior school pupils.

There will be the opportunity for pupils to share their work and perform to each other and to an audience of parents, teachers and school governors.

'Above all else, the quality of the people from the NLO has been the key feature of the work. The children developed very good relationships with them all, as did our staff. Your team are a real pleasure to work with and we hope that we will soon have another opportunity to work with them again.'

'I think the ability to work and collaborate with new people and share ideas. Their exposure to new sounds has been very good too, as has their ability to overcome negative views about themselves and perform in front of an audience.'

'Children with little or no access to sound could access music through beat, rhythm and vibrations in this interactive session.

An excellent project which was appreciated by teachers and children.'
