The
New London Orchestra was launched by Ronald Corp in 1988 to
fill a gap
in London’s orchestral scene. Its programmes
of often unknown 19th and 20th century chamber orchestra repertoire
gave it a distinctive style, which, combined with the highest
standards of orchestral playing, resulted in critical acclaim
and popularity with audiences. Broadcasts on the BBC and recordings
on Hyperion Records quickly followed.
Anthony
Payne wrote in The Independent:

band of players that performs consistently as well as the New
London
Orchestra under the direction of Ronald Corp automatically
becomes indispensable.
Featured
repertoire includes works by composers such as Poulenc, Roussel,
Satie, Ibert, Bowen, and especially Martinu, whose music
was put back on the map by Corp’s programming. The 4 best-selling
recordings of British Light Music Classics (and performances
of this music) have led to renewed interest in these classics
of British heritage. More ...
