In Training

In 2009 the New London Orchestra invited local sports teams to rise to a new challenge and create 5-minute pieces of music - these might be anthems for their teams and fans, or motivational pieces for training purposes. Our specialist musicians worked with the teams to create pieces for whatever combination of voices/instruments they wish, and helped them with performance skills.

The project culminated in an evening competition in which the teams performed their pieces to each other and an audience, and at which the New London Orchestra performed sports related music.

What did the Orchestra play?

Holst ‘Jupiter’ from The Planets Malloy Match of the Day Mozart A Musical Joke Puccini ‘Nessum Dorma’ from Turandot Mozart Symphony 41 Denza Funiculi Funicula Vangelis Chariots of Fire

"It's so thrilling to feel the buzz of pleasure the audience is getting from listening to the playing of the NLO - last night the atmosphere was electric, and people were having a good time, supporting each other in their performances as well as cheering on Mark Wilde as he reached the high notes of 'Nessun Dorma'. It was also fabulous to see physical activity and sport responding to music and using music as a vehicle for expression. I bet most of the youngsters who took part had never been up close to a symphony orchestra, and I know that they were enthused by the experience and will want to hear more. " Ronald Corp
