New
London Orchestra: excelling in concerts, music education, corporate
events, corporate training and business development
Education and Community
Education is central to the life of the New London Orchestra.
The Education and Community Department was established in 2000,
responding to the lack of opportunity for music making both in
schools and in communities, and the intention to attract new
audiences that reflect the diverse, multicultural community of
London.
The main aims of the Department are:
- to provide accessible live music making opportunities for
all elements of the community
- to demonstrate that live music can enrich the National Curriculum,
offering training and support to teachers
- to create projects that sustain positive effects beyond their
duration
A dedicated group of New London Orchestra musicians, trained
in education work, lead workshops in schools, residential homes,
Special Needs schools, and community centres. Projects vary in
length, from three hour workshops to six-month programmes. Our
work focuses on active participation, giving people the chance
to explore their own creative potential and broaden their understanding
and appreciation of music and the arts. Our work divides into
three strands of activity:
