Find out here about the New London Orchestra's projects outside the concert hall. When possible, the orchestra aims to involve itself in projects that help raise awareness about music, and to get people involved. The orchestra is proud to be associated with a number of community groups in the London Borough of Newham, where much of its work is focussed.

Literacy Through Music (2011-2013)

The New London Orchestra's flagship education project for 2011-2013 is 'Literacy Through Music', a project taking place in primary schools in the London Borough of Newham. This project is funded over its three-year duration by the JPMorgan Chase Foundation.  An evaluation of the 2011 project by London University's Institute of Education will be available soon.

During the academic year 2011-2012, the project's scope broadens from 3 to 35 schools. During the year, practitioners will work with primary school teachers during Inset Workshops to foster the use of music in the teaching of literacy in the classroom. Workshops are based on experience developed during the spring and summer terms of 2011, when practitioners worked with three primary schools in Newham. Read more...
